Baby Girl Dies Following School Bus Crash That Killed Mother In Yaphank

A mother and her 1-year-old daughter have both been killed in a Long Island school bus crash.

According to Daily Voice, Suffolk County Police reported that emergency crews were summoned to Yaphank at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 4th, following reports of a school bus collision on County Road 101 near the Long Island Expressway.

As per the investigation, Jacklyn Smolian from East Patchogue was heading in the north direction on County Road 101, while the bus traveling in the south direction tried to take a left turn onto Express Drive South.

The bus was knocked onto its side as a result of the collision between the two vehicles.

According to the authorities, Smolian was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Thursday, shortly before 6 p.m., Suffolk County Police reported that her daughter had also passed away due to her injuries at Stony Brook University Hospital.

According to police, the school bus operator, Jose Ducos, aged 73 and from Medford, as well as a female passenger aged 61, received medical attention for injuries that were not life-threatening.

At the time of the crash, there were no kids present on the bus.

After an investigation by crews, County Road 101 was closed for several hours. However, it has now been reopened to traffic.
