🔥 Inferno at Seaford Marina: Restaurant Fire Engulfs Six Boats Amid Hurricane Winds

By Long Island Daily News Staff | August 22, 2025

SEAFORD, NY — A late-night blaze at a popular waterfront restaurant in Seaford sent shockwaves through the South Shore community Thursday, as flames leapt from the building to six docked boats in the adjacent marina, fueled by fierce winds from Hurricane Erin.

The fire broke out around 9:30 p.m. at Crabby Amy’s, a well-known seafood spot nestled along Ocean Avenue. Within minutes, the flames spread to nearby vessels at Treasure Island Marina, igniting fuel tanks and sending thick plumes of smoke across the canal.

“It was chaos,” said local resident Maria DeLuca, who witnessed the fire from her backyard across the water. “You could hear popping sounds from the boats, and the wind was just feeding the flames. It felt like the whole marina was going up.”

Fire departments from Seaford, Wantagh, Massapequa, and surrounding areas responded swiftly, deploying over 100 firefighters and two fire boats to contain the blaze. The U.S. Coast Guard was also called in to manage fuel spills and prevent further environmental damage.

Officials confirmed that six boats were destroyed or severely damaged, with two drifting loose before being secured. Crabby Amy’s suffered a total loss, and the restaurant’s owners were seen consoling staff and neighbors as crews worked through the night.

Miraculously, no injuries were reported. Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause, though preliminary reports suggest the fire may have started in the restaurant’s kitchen before spreading rapidly due to hurricane-force gusts.

The incident comes as Long Island braces for continued coastal impacts from Hurricane Erin, which has already caused flooding and power outages across Suffolk and Nassau counties.

Crabby Amy’s, a local favorite known for its crab cakes and sunset views, had just reopened for the summer season. “It’s heartbreaking,” said longtime patron Joe Marino. “This place was part of our summers. Watching it burn was like losing a piece of our community.”

Cleanup efforts are underway, and marina officials are assessing structural damage to the docks. Community members have already begun organizing support for the restaurant staff and boat owners affected.
