Long Island Native Plant Sale and Environmental Fair Coming to Brentwood Sept. 12-13

Two-day event will feature native plants, gardening experts and environmental organizations from across Long Island

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — Long Islanders interested in gardening, wildlife and protecting the local environment will have an opportunity to learn from area experts while shopping for locally grown native plants during an upcoming two-day event in Brentwood.

The Long Island Native Plant Initiative (LINPI) will hold its Native Plant Sale and Environmental Fair on Saturday, Sept. 12, and Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

The event will be held at the Sisters of St. Joseph, 1725 Brentwood Road in Brentwood.

Visitors will be able to purchase a variety of locally grown native wildflowers, grasses, shrubs, trees and vines while learning more about the role native plants can play in Long Island’s ecosystem.

Gardening experts will be available during the event to answer questions and explain how residents can incorporate native plants into their own yards and gardens.

Native plants can provide important resources for local wildlife, including birds, butterflies, bees and other pollinators.

Local Environmental Groups Coming Together

The environmental fair is also expected to bring together numerous organizations involved in conservation, gardening, education and environmental stewardship across Long Island.

Participating groups are expected to include the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society, Brentwood Public Library, Group for the East End, South Shore Audubon Society, Suffolk Alliance for Pollinators, Long Island Invasive Species Management Area, ReWild Long Island, Hofstra University’s Bird Sanctuary and sustainability students, along with additional organizations.

The gathering will give visitors an opportunity to speak directly with people working on environmental issues across the region and learn about practical steps residents can take to support Long Island’s natural environment.

For families, homeowners and gardeners, organizers say the event is also an opportunity to discover relatively simple ways to create more wildlife-friendly spaces at home.

Supporting Long Island’s Native Plants

Proceeds from plant purchases will support the Long Island Native Plant Initiative’s work to protect and restore native plant populations across Long Island.

LINPI works to preserve the genetic diversity of Long Island’s native plants and increase the availability of locally sourced native species.

The September event combines that mission with public education, giving residents an opportunity to learn not only which plants are native to Long Island but also why those plants matter to the broader ecosystem.
