🗞️ 40 Suspected Gang Members Arrested in Major Long Island Sweep
Law enforcement agencies across Long Island joined forces this week in a massive crackdown on gang activity, resulting in the arrest of 40 individuals believed to be tied to violent street gangs. The operation, which spanned several days, targeted members of groups like MS-13 and the Trinitarios, who have been linked to recent assaults, drug trafficking, and weapons violations.
Officials say the arrests were part of a coordinated effort to curb escalating violence in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Among those taken into custody were suspects involved in a brutal machete attack at a local park last fall — an incident that left one victim with life-threatening injuries.
During the sweep, authorities recovered firearms, knives, and large amounts of cash and narcotics. Many of the suspects are now facing serious charges, including attempted murder, assault, and gang conspiracy. More than 30 are also being held by immigration authorities for possible deportation.
“This is about protecting our communities,” said Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder. “We’re going after the most dangerous individuals, and we’re not stopping here.”
Local leaders praised the operation as a major step toward restoring safety and trust in neighborhoods that have been shaken by gang violence. Investigations are ongoing, and officials say more arrests could follow in the coming weeks.
