According to the Suffolk County Police Department, 14-year-old bicyclist Qamat Shah was killed in an automobile accident on Route 347 in Setauket.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, a youngster who was riding his bicycle across Road 347 on Thursday evening in Setauket was hit by a vehicle and later died as a result of his injuries.

At around 6:30 o'clock in the evening, a 2015 Dodge Charger reportedly ran over Qamat Shah, a resident of Setauket, when he was crossing the busy route, which is also known as Nesconset Highway, at Wireless Road.

Shah was transported to the Stony Brook University Hospital, but he did not survive his stay there.

According to the authorities, both the male driver and the female passenger in his vehicle were unharmed. There has been no formal accusation made.

On Friday, Superintendent Kevin Scanlon of the Three Village Central School District made a statement to the community of the district.

"It is with a heavy heart that I share that earlier this morning, the district was informed that R.C. Murphy Junior High School eighth grader Qamat Shah tragically passed away after an accident on an area roadway," Scanlon wrote. "It is with a heavy heart that I share that earlier this morning, the district was informed that R.C. Murphy Junior High School eighth grader Qamat Shah tragically passed away "We are tremendously heartbroken to hear of this devastating news, and we are aware that a sudden loss such as this may profoundly effect the whole of the school community."

Scanlon said that the school system had "quickly" put its crisis response plan into action, and that grief counselors had been made accessible to kids as well as staff members at each school in the district.

The statement read that any parent who had questions or concerns about how to navigate discussing this news with their child could contact the main office at their child's school for assistance. It went on to say that support was also available through junior high school guidance offices and the counseling center at the high school.

In order to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle, it was impound. Anybody who saw the collision or has information related to it is asked to contact the Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652.
