Man Seriously Injured After Being Struck by Car on Sunrise Highway in West Babylon

WEST BABYLON, NY — A man was hospitalized with serious injuries Tuesday night after being struck by a car while on Sunrise Highway in West Babylon, according to Suffolk County Police.

The collision occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on September 1 along the eastbound side of Sunrise Highway between Exits 37 and 38.

Police said the man was walking within the eastbound lanes when a 2014 Kia Optima struck him.

Emergency responders transported the injured pedestrian to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was treated for serious injuries.

Authorities have not released the man’s identity while they work to notify his family.

The driver of the Kia was identified by police as 50-year-old Rosemarie Grispino of East Islip. Police said she was not injured.

The Kia was taken into police custody so it could undergo a safety examination as investigators work to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating.

Police are also asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has information that could help investigators piece together what happened to come forward.
