An urgent appeal for foster homes is underway after two friendly male cats were recovered from an area in Far Rockaway where a hospital worker reports that multiple community cats have disappeared and some have been found dead.
Alleykattz Inc., an animal rescue organization, is seeking a temporary foster home for the two cats, which reportedly disappeared before returning to the colony.
The organization says the animals are currently being kept in a hospital storage room because the person caring for them has nowhere else to safely house them.
According to the rescue, the cats are scheduled to be neutered and tested on Sunday, but they will need somewhere to go afterward.
Disturbing Reports From a Far Rockaway Cat Colony
The situation came to the attention of Alleykattz Inc. after a nurse working at a Far Rockaway hospital contacted the organization seeking emergency assistance.
According to the rescue, the nurse regularly feeds several community cat colonies near the hospital.
However, she reported that cats from one particular colony have been disappearing and that some have been discovered dead.
The nurse fears someone may be deliberately harming the animals, potentially through poisoning.
Those suspicions have not been independently verified, and no official determination of poisoning or intentional animal cruelty has been provided.
The circumstances surrounding the reported deaths and disappearances remain unclear.
Nevertheless, the concerns have created an urgent situation for the two surviving cats.
A Desperate Plea to Save Two Friendly Cats
In a message shared with Alleykattz Inc., the hospital worker described her growing concern for the animals.
“The two cats were missing but now returned. There are many cats found dead here. Someone is killing the cats,” the nurse wrote.
She explained that the cats are scheduled to receive veterinary attention, including neutering and testing, but that she cannot continue housing them at the hospital.
“Is there anywhere they can go? They can’t stay or be returned here. I am trying to save the cats here. Please I need help. Please can you get them a foster?”
The appeal reflects the challenges faced by individuals who care for outdoor cat colonies but lack the resources or space to provide permanent shelter.
Two Cats Need a Foster Home Immediately
According to Alleykattz Inc., both cats appear to be friendly toward people, making foster placement a potential option.
The organization says the animals will receive veterinary care before being placed.
However, finding a foster home is essential.
The nurse cannot continue keeping the cats in the hospital storage room, and the rescue says it does not currently have the space to take them without a committed foster.
Sonnia of Alleykattz Inc. is appealing directly to animal lovers who may be able to provide a safe temporary home.
“I am asking if someone can foster them and they will be fully vetted,” she explained in the rescue’s appeal.
She added that the cats would be under the care of Alleykattz Inc., but the organization cannot take responsibility for them without first securing a foster placement.
Why Fostering Matters
Foster homes are a critical part of animal rescue efforts.
They provide temporary shelter for animals while rescue organizations coordinate veterinary care, rehabilitation, adoption or other long-term arrangements.
For cats rescued from potentially unsafe environments, foster placement can provide stability and allow rescuers to assess their health and behavior.
In this case, the immediate priority is finding a safe place for two male cats who cannot remain in their current temporary location.
Even a short-term foster arrangement may provide the organization with additional time to coordinate the animals’ next steps.

Alleykattz Inc. is asking anyone who can provide a safe foster home to complete its application.

Concerns About Animal Safety
The reports of missing and dead cats also raise broader questions about the safety of community cat colonies.
At this time, Long Island Daily News has not independently confirmed the cause of the reported deaths, whether any poisoning occurred or whether law enforcement or animal protection authorities have opened an investigation.
Anyone who witnesses suspected animal cruelty should report the incident to the appropriate authorities rather than confronting a suspected individual.
Documenting concerns and seeking professional investigation can help establish what happened and protect other animals.
A Chance for Safety
For these two cats, the immediate concern is finding a foster home before their temporary housing arrangement ends.
They have reportedly returned after disappearing from an area where their caretaker fears other cats have been harmed.
Now, Alleykattz Inc. is asking the community to help ensure they have somewhere safe to go.
Two cats need a foster. One person willing to open their home could make all the difference.
Anyone interested in helping is encouraged to complete the foster application and contact the rescue promptly.
