A $5,000 reward has been offered in connection with the fatal hit-and-run long island expressway incident that occurred in Ronkonkoma.

The Suffolk County Police Department and Crime Stoppers are presenting a $5,000 stipend that leads to the apprehension of an individual in connection with a lethal hit-and-run collision that caused the death of a local male.

An incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on the 5th of December, 2022, on the Long Island Expressway in the Town of Ronkonkoma, Suffolk County.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being provided swiftly for any data that leads to apprehension. The crime-fighting organization Crime Stoppers reported that the funds will be handed out within a week of the arrest.

Robert Twiford, a 61-year-old resident of Melville, was hit by an unknown car while standing on the off-ramp at Exit 60 of the eastbound Long Island Expressway, according to the Suffolk County Police. The vehicle that hit Twiford had already left the area before the crash happened.

A few minutes later, the driver of the car that had escaped stopped on Garrity Avenue in Ronkonkoma, exited from the gray Ford Focus hatchback from 2015-2018, and used a flashlight to inspect the car, reported the police.

Twiford was conveyed to Stony Brook University Hospital, where the attending physician declared him deceased.
