On Wednesday, August 7, Josef McLorrain, a 22-year-old individual from Brooklyn, faced indictment on charges of attempted murder along with several related offenses in Suffolk County Court. The legal proceedings mark a significant development in the case against him.

According to prosecutors, on the morning of Monday, June 24, Josef McLorrain was behind the wheel of a Mazda SUV as he navigated through the parking lot of the Bellport Academic Center, an institution affiliated with Eastern Suffolk BOCES, located on Martha Avenue.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., prosecutors contend that Josef McLorrain intentionally accelerated his Mazda SUV towards a group of five employees who were walking through the parking lot. In a troubling turn of events, he struck two individuals from the group before making his escape from the scene of the incident. The actions taken by McLorrain have raised significant concerns regarding public safety and accountability.

As a consequence of the collision, a 31-year-old man from Coram was rushed to the hospital, where he was treated for serious injuries. Meanwhile, a 41-year-old woman from Ronkonkoma suffered injuries that, while serious, were fortunately non-life-threatening. This incident has sparked further investigation and raised questions about the circumstances leading up to the event, as well as the potential legal ramifications for McLorrain.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney emphasized the inherent dangers posed by vehicles, stating, "The large size, speed, and mass of vehicles make them capable of causing significant injury or death to pedestrians, even with minimal contact."
