Judge Sets Date to Decide on Use of Key DNA Evidence in Gilgo Beach Serial Killer Case
RIVERHEAD, NY — A judge has scheduled a crucial hearing that will determine whether prosecutors can use critical DNA evidence in the case against accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann.
The decision, expected on the newly scheduled date, could significantly impact the prosecution’s ability to link Heuermann to the murders of multiple women whose remains were found along Ocean Parkway more than a decade ago.
Defense attorneys have challenged the admissibility of the DNA evidence, arguing that it was obtained without proper legal procedures. Prosecutors maintain the evidence is both lawfully collected and vital to their case.
Heuermann, a former Manhattan architect from Massapequa Park, was arrested in July 2023 and has pleaded not guilty to several murder charges.
The upcoming ruling could set the tone for how the case proceeds in court. A final decision is expected following arguments presented during the hearing.
