Father of Two Seriously Injured in Nesconset Crash That Killed Construction Worker

NESCONSET, N.Y. — A Long Island father of two is reportedly facing a difficult recovery after suffering a severe leg injury in a crash that killed another construction worker and seriously injured a third in Nesconset.

The crash happened Aug. 10 near Townline Road and Terry Road, where a construction crew was working.

According to authorities, Thomas Lobianco, 26, was allegedly driving the wrong way on Townline Road before running a red light and striking the workers.

Joel Sicon-Porix, 38, of Mastic, was killed in the crash.

Two other construction workers, identified by authorities as a 30-year-old Bay Shore man and a 33-year-old Brentwood man, suffered serious injuries.

One of the injured workers has since been described as a father of two who suffered a shattered leg, according to reports. His identity and additional details about his injuries have not yet been independently confirmed by Long Island Daily News.

Driver Charged

Lobianco was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs in connection with the crash.

He has pleaded not guilty.

Authorities have indicated that additional or upgraded charges could potentially follow as the investigation continues.

The crash has left one Long Island family mourning the loss of a loved one while the surviving workers and their families face potentially lengthy recoveries.

The incident also underscores the dangers faced by construction and roadway workers throughout Long Island, where crews often perform their jobs just feet from moving traffic.
