CALVERTON, NY — Behind the doors of a Long Island animal shelter are dogs waiting for something many of us take for granted — a place to call home.

At Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton, dogs are currently waiting for families to choose them.

Some shelter animals find homes quickly. Others wait for months. Kent Animal Shelter says some pets in its care have waited two years or longer to find their forever families.

For Long Island Daily News, that’s reason enough to help.

🐾 THEY DON’T HAVE TO BE IN DANGER TO NEED US.

An animal doesn’t have to be facing euthanasia or an emergency for their story to matter.

Every shelter animal deserves to be seen.

Every shelter animal deserves a chance.

And somewhere on Long Island, the right person may simply not know that their future best friend is waiting for them.

Kent Animal Shelter operates as a no-kill haven for homeless, abused and abandoned animals while they wait for permanent homes. The shelter says its rescue work also gives animals from shelters without no-kill policies another chance.

Animals adopted through Kent are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and receive appropriate health testing before adoption.
