Officials reported that a team of police officers in Long Island came to the rescue of a set of ducklings that had plunged through a sewer grate in Massapequa.

Police officers were alerted via a 911 call that a distressed mother duck was putting herself in peril by walking into traffic on Old Sunrise Highway. The reason for her erratic behavior was because her four ducklings had inadvertently fallen into a nearby sewer.

Upon reaching the location, officers were able to hear the cries of distressed ducklings coming from below ground at a depth of approximately 8 feet.

Sources said that the police could not spot the ducklings, and the latter could not be rescued as the sewer grate could not be lifted.

Four patrolling officers teamed up with two officers from the Emergency Service Unit to rescue the ducklings. They worked together to follow the sewer system routes that led to a nearby reservoir, where they could hear the ducklings in need of help.

The policemen used the YouTube app installed on their mobile devices to emit a sequence of duckling chirps, drawing the ducklings towards the access point. Consequently, all four little ducklings acknowledged the noises and steered their way to the area of safety.

The ducklings were cleaned by the officers and then brought back to their mother, who was waiting for them in a creek located nearby.
