🏛️ LONG ISLAND LEGISLATIVE WATCH — BILL #1

Long Island Daily News is beginning our new Long Island Legislative Watch with a proposal that could affect roads across New York.

📜 THE BILL: New York Assembly Bill A966

A966 proposes requiring the New York State Department of Transportation to install signs stating:

“WATCH FOR MOTORCYCLES”

on state highways maintained by the department.

The goal is simple: increase motorcycle awareness among drivers and potentially prevent crashes involving motorcyclists.

But this legislation has not become law.

A966 is currently in the legislative process, which means this is exactly when the public should know about it.

🔎 WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

Long Island Daily News will follow:

• Whether A966 advances out of committee
• Whether the Assembly votes on it
• What happens with its Senate companion
• How Long Island’s state representatives respond
• Whether the legislation ultimately reaches the governor

And we’re going to start asking another important question:

WHERE DO LONG ISLAND’S ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES STAND ON A966?

We intend to reach out to state lawmakers representing Nassau and Suffolk Counties and give them an opportunity to tell residents whether they support the proposal — and why.
