A physically disabled man on Long Island has accused an aide of causing harm.

According to authorities, a man has been arrested for reportedly attacking a person with physical disabilities whom he was supposed to be assisting, almost a month after a witness observed the occurrence on Long Island.

According to the Nassau County police, Paul D. Shorter, aged 32, was arrested on June 3rd for an incident that was alleged to have taken place in May at a parking lot in East Garden City.

At around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10th, a witness notified the authorities that they had witnessed Shorter, a medical assistant, acting aggressively while attempting to assist a patient in entering a transportation van in a Stewart Avenue parking lot.

Shorter reportedly grabbed and contorted the arms of the 55-year-old man towards his neck with an attempt to put him inside the van, leading to the victim's face and mouth being covered.

According to reports, he was observed placing his hand over the victim's mouth and nose while shouting at him, exposing the victim's face.

Shorter was arrested after authorities conducted a month-long investigation into the incident.

Due to his alleged actions, he is facing charges for putting a physically disabled individual who lacks competence in harm's way. His scheduled appearance at First District Court is on Tuesday, June 6th.
