SUV driver approached 2 girls in Wantagh, cops say

An "unusual incident" that occurred on Friday in Wantagh involving a driver approaching two 11-year-old girls walking home from school is being investigated by Nassau County police.

At 3:20 p.m., a gray SUV driven by a man in his 30s or 40s reportedly approached a group of girls on Twin Lane North. As per the police, the driver asked the girls to come to his vehicle. However, they declined and ran away from the spot.

According to authorities, the SUV was spotted heading towards Wantagh Avenue before disappearing.

The person operating the vehicle was characterized as being bulky, with cropped, dark hair and a small beard.

The Seventh Squad detectives are currently looking into an occurrence that happened on a residential road located roughly a mile away from the Wantagh Union Free School District. This is where both the middle school and high school campuses are situated.
