A Long Island man driving drunk with a child in the vehicle is facing a host of charges after an overnight crash, according to police.
The accident occurred at Carle Place at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21.
According to Nassau County Police, Matthew Ryan, a 42-year-old individual from Mineola, was operating his 2014 Dodge Ram in a westerly direction on Westbury Avenue when he veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into a 2021 Dodge Ram.
As per the police, Ryan came to a halt at 252 Westbury Ave. after leaving the site of the accident due to extensive damage to his tires.
Ryan's relative took custody of his 13-year-old daughter who was a passenger in the vehicle; fortunately, she sustained no injuries.
A 42-year-old woman, who was driving the other vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital by a Nassau County Police Ambulance to receive treatment.
Ryan has been charged with:
- Two counts of driving while intoxicated,
- Aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra’s Law),
- Third-degree assault,
- Endangering the welfare of a child,
- Multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
It is believed by the police that the two shootings are linked and they are currently searching for a black sedan, which could potentially be a Mercedes, as stated by Assistant Chief Andre Wright of Metropolitan PD. According to him, witnesses have reported that the car drove down the block and shot at multiple individuals without any discrimination.
An investigation is still ongoing and there haven't been any arrests made yet.
