Long Island Community to Gather for Second Annual Candle Lighting in Memory of Logan Vogel

MILLER PLACE, NY — Family, friends and members of the Long Island community will come together on Friday, August 21, 2026, to honor the life and memory of Logan Vogel, a 20-year-old Mount Sinai resident whose life was tragically cut short in a motorcycle crash two years ago.

The Second Annual Candle Lighting in Memory of Logan Vogel will take place at 9:00 p.m. at the corner of Oakland Avenue and NY-25A in Miller Place, the site of the crash that claimed Logan’s life on August 21, 2024.

Community members are invited to attend and are asked to bring a candle as Logan’s loved ones gather to light the night in his memory.

Logan was traveling westbound on Route 25A on his motorcycle on the night of August 21, 2024, when he was involved in a collision at the intersection of Oakland Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His sudden death at just 20 years old left an immeasurable void in the lives of his family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him.

A lifelong Mount Sinai resident, Logan was a 2022 graduate of Mount Sinai High School and the BOCES Auto Mechanics program. His passion for cars and automotive work continued after graduation when he worked at Mavis Discount Tire in Port Jefferson.

Those closest to Logan remember his sense of humor, strong work ethic, love of animals, passion for motorcycles and cars, and, most importantly, the love he had for his family and friends.

Two years after his passing, Logan’s memory remains deeply present in the lives of those who loved him.

A Mother’s Invitation

As Logan’s mother, I invite everyone who knew and loved my son, as well as members of our Long Island community who may not have known him personally, to stand beside our family as we remember him.

There are no words that can fully describe the pain of losing a child. Logan was my son, and I miss him every single day. While his life was tragically cut short, the love, laughter and memories he gave us can never be taken away.

This candle lighting is about keeping Logan’s memory alive and surrounding our family with the people who continue to remember him.

Whether you knew Logan personally or simply wish to stand with our family in solidarity and remembrance, everyone is welcome. Your presence, prayers, love and support mean more to our family than words can express.

On August 21, we will gather once again at the place where Logan’s life ended, but we will fill that place with something stronger — love, light and remembrance.

We ask everyone attending to please bring a candle so that, together, we can light the night for Logan.
