LI Driver From Ronkonkoma Accused of Flashing Fake Police Credentials to Avoid Suffolk Traffic Tickets, Authorities Say

RONKONKOMA, N.Y. — A Ronkonkoma man is facing criminal charges after Suffolk County authorities say he repeatedly displayed counterfeit law enforcement credentials in an attempt to avoid receiving traffic tickets during stops across Suffolk County.

According to investigators, the suspect allegedly presented fraudulent police identification to officers during multiple traffic stops in an effort to convince them he was affiliated with law enforcement. Authorities said the credentials were later determined to be fake.

The investigation led detectives to arrest the Ronkonkoma resident, who now faces charges related to criminal impersonation, possessing forged instruments, and other offenses.

Prosecutors allege the suspect used the bogus credentials to gain favorable treatment during traffic enforcement encounters, undermining public trust and attempting to obstruct police duties.

Suffolk County officials said impersonating a law enforcement officer is a serious offense that can carry significant criminal penalties. Authorities praised the officers who recognized inconsistencies in the identification and pursued the investigation.

The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
