Long Island Man Driving Drunk With Child Onboard Crashes Pickup Tuck, Police Say
A Long Island man driving drunk with a child in the vehicle is facing a host of charges after an overnight crash, according to police.
The accident occurred at Carle Place at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21.
According to Nassau County Police, Matthew Ryan, a 42-year-old individual from Mineola, was operating his 2014 Dodge Ram in a westerly direction on Westbury Avenue when he veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into a 2021 Dodge Ram.
As per the police, Ryan came to a halt at 252 Westbury Ave. after leaving the site of the accident due to extensive damage to his tires.
Ryan's relative took custody of his 13-year-old daughter who was a passenger in the vehicle; fortunately, she sustained no injuries.
A 42-year-old woman, who was driving the other vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital by a Nassau County Police Ambulance to receive treatment.
Ryan has been charged with:
- Two counts of driving while intoxicated,
- Aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra’s Law),
- Third-degree assault,
- Endangering the welfare of a child,
- Multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
The arraignment of him is scheduled for Saturday, April 22 at First District Court in Hempstead.
