Long Island Man Nabbed For Running Down Teen, Speeding Away In BMW, Police Say
A Long Island man has been charged with running down a teen on a Citi Bike e-bike and then speeding away in a BMW SUV.
Nassau County resident Yaser Ibrahim, age 18, of Levittown, was arrested for the Monday, April 10 incident in Queens.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday, in Astoria, the 16-year-old cyclist heading south on 21st Street was hit by Ibrahim, who was driving a 2022 BMW X 7, as stated by the New York City Police.
The NYPD reported that after the crash, Ibrahim did not stay at the location and instead continued to travel towards the south.
According to the NYPD, Jaydan McLaurin, a teenager from Queens, was transported by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem where he was pronounced dead.
The unoccupied BMW was found at 23 Street and 22 Drive shortly after the collision. The NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad investigated and identified the person who was driving the vehicle during the incident.
Later on, McLaurin was taken into custody without any additional trouble. He faced charges for leaving the location of an accident where someone was killed, violating the windshield tinting laws, and operating a vehicle without a valid license.
