11-Year-Old Girl On E-Bike Thrown To Ground After Striking Car In Mastic Beach: Police

MASTIC BEACH, NY — An 11-year-old girl was injured after the e-bike she was riding collided with a vehicle in Mastic Beach, according to Suffolk County Police.

Police said the young rider was thrown to the ground as a result of the collision. She was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was treated for injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.

The incident is another reminder of the growing presence of electric bicycles on Long Island roads, where e-bike riders frequently share streets and intersections with cars, trucks and other vehicles.

For parents, motorists and young riders, incidents involving children on e-bikes raise important questions about road safety. Drivers should remain especially alert for bicycles and e-bikes when approaching intersections, making turns or traveling through residential neighborhoods. Riders should also follow traffic laws, remain visible and use appropriate safety equipment, including helmets.

Even when injuries are not considered life-threatening, a collision between a vehicle and a child riding an e-bike can have serious consequences.

As e-bikes continue to become more popular among children and teenagers across Long Island, awareness from everyone sharing the road remains critical.
