Overnight Closures Planned for Route 111 in Islip for Five Consecutive Nights

Drivers should expect detours between Moffitt Boulevard and Union Boulevard as NYSDOT conducts drainage improvements

ISLIP, N.Y. — Motorists traveling through the Town of Islip should prepare for overnight road closures and detours along State Route 111 this week as the New York State Department of Transportation conducts drainage improvements.

Both directions of State Route 111, also known as Islip Avenue, will be closed between Moffitt Boulevard and Union Boulevard (County Road 50) beginning Monday, Aug. 24, according to a travel advisory issued by the New York State Department of Transportation.

The closures are scheduled to take place for five consecutive nights from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.

The overnight work is being conducted to facilitate drainage enhancements along the roadway.

Detours for Motorists

Drivers traveling northbound on Route 111 will be directed onto:

Westbound Union Boulevard → northbound Nassau Avenue → eastbound Moffitt Boulevard → back to State Route 111.

Southbound motorists will be directed onto:

Westbound Moffitt Boulevard → southbound Nassau Avenue → eastbound Union Boulevard → back to State Route 111.

Drivers should allow additional travel time and use caution while traveling through the area, particularly near construction crews and temporary traffic-control measures.

Work Is Weather-Dependent

NYSDOT cautioned that construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.

Motorists traveling through Islip during the overnight hours are encouraged to plan ahead and be prepared for the detours throughout the five-night construction period.

The Department of Transportation is also reminding motorists of the importance of slowing down and moving over when approaching highway workers and work zones.

“Lives are on the line; slow down and move over for highway workers!” the department said in its advisory.

Drivers can obtain current traffic and travel conditions through New York State’s 511NY service by calling 511, visiting 511NY.org, or using the 511NY mobile app.
