Suffolk Police Arrest Three Men for Allegedly Participating in Illegal Car Meets in 2025
Suffolk County Police recently arrested two men, and a 17-year-old teenager for allegedly taking part in Illegal Car meets throughout Suffolk County in 2025.
The arrests come as part of an ongoing investigation into three separate incidents involving individuals whose actions posed risks to other motorists, pedestrians and officers.
David Alvardo Zelaya, 26, of Wyandanch was arrested on January 3, 2026, and charged with Unlawful Speed Contests, Side Shows, and Races. His vehicle, which had several equipment violations was impounded. Zelaya was observed performing a burnout in a 2020 Dodge Charger on December 28, 2025, in the parking lot located at 437 William Floyd Parkway in Shirley.
Daniel Valsquez- Chavez, 24, of Bay Shore, was arrested on January 7, 2026, and charged with Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, and Unlawful Speed Contests, Sideshows, and Races, and his vehicle was impounded. The arrest comes from a December 7 incident in Brentwood, during which Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop and Valsquez-Chavez performed a burnout, and fled at a high rate of speed in a reckless manner.
A 17-year-old Centereach male was arrested on January 2, and charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police officer in a Motor-Vehicle, and his vehicle was impounded. The teen fled from police in a 2013, Hyundai Genesis from a Selden Parking lot, located at 401 Independence Plaza, on November 28, 2025. A relative of the teen, Gerardo Benitez, 26, of Centereach reported the Hyundai Stolen, and following the incident was charged with falsifying a police report.
"The Street Takeover Task Force has made Suffolk County Safer by taking dangerous drivers off the roads, impounding vehicles, and making our streets safer," Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine said. "I applaud Commissioner Kevin Catalina and the unit for the work the SCPD has done to address this quality-of-life issue as we are approaching the break of nearly 100 Street takeovers since its inception."
"These arrests, reflect the dedication and the persistence of the Street Takeover Task Force," Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina said. "Illegal car meets put lives at risk, and are an overall nuisance on our roadways. We will continue to investigate these incidents and hold those responsible accountable while keeping our roads safe."
