On Tuesday, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office welcomed a new member who had four paws.

Luna, who bears the name of Billy Moon, a deceased FDNY firefighter, is undergoing certification training to become a therapy dog. After completing the process, which is estimated to take 8-10 months, Luna will pay tribute to her namesake in some way.

Kristina Moon, widow of Billy Moon, acknowledges that first responders and law enforcement have altruistic jobs. She finds it comforting that a dog has been named after Billy to recognize his legacy and the arduousness of their work. Moreover, it highlights the necessity of supporting these individuals.

Paws of War made the donation of Luna who has become the first therapy dog to serve with the wellness unit at the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office.

Department members are of the opinion that Luna will be beneficial in creating a secure atmosphere and boosting the morale of staff.

Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon acknowledges that his staff is experiencing a significant amount of difficulties.

After Luna obtains her certification, she will start working at the deputy command corrections facilities as a starting point.
