Intense precipitation, strong gusts, and water levels rising over Long Island overnight Friday into Saturday.
The National Weather Service predicts that Long Island could see significant rainfall, gusty gusts, and maybe even floods on Friday night and Saturday.
Storm advisories were issued by the National Weather Service on Friday evening, stating that "strong low pressure will bring a wintry mix to the interior," as well as "heavy rain, high gusts, and moderate coastal flooding" on Saturday.
In the most at-risk areas of Long Island's shore, the National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning for water levels of 1.5 to 2.5 feet above ground.
Long Island may have up to 2 inches of rain. 1 to 112 inches is more likely. The "most susceptible coastal communities" may experience flooding on Saturday morning due to an expected high tide. Meteorologists have indicated that the degree of flooding depends on how the winds change throughout the storm.
Snow flurries of snow are possible as part of the cold, snowy mix, but accumulation is not anticipated anywhere on Long Island.
During Friday night and Saturday morning, Long Island and southern Connecticut may expect easterly winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts of up to 50 mph. The weather service has warned of the possibility of scattered power outages and fallen trees.
Precipitation is expected to end by early Saturday afternoon, and the daytime high will reach the mid-40s. This will be the pattern for the next several days.
Temperatures at night will be close to freezing.
The sun could shine brightly on Sunday, and temperatures could reach the middle 40s.
Then, high pressure moves in from the west, clearing the sky for a sunny Monday morning.
Tuesday morning might see a few showers after a dry Monday. Rain is possible along the coast once again, although snow is possible inland. Rain and snow are also possible inland, so prepare for both possibilities on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
