Icy conditions comprising of rain, sleet, and snow accompanied by hazardous conditions are likely to ensue, with potential for power outages.
A mixture of rain, sleet, and snow is making its way in a west-to-east direction across the region on Wednesday afternoon, February 22nd, resulting in treacherous conditions in certain areas and potentially hazardous circumstances.
The National Weather Service released a statement at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday advising that precipitation was moving into the area and a rapid change from rain to a mix of sleet and snow at the coast was evident. It was further recommended that those located further inland should anticipate a few hours of a rain and sleet mix.
Areas to the north of the I-84 corridor will be likely to experience freezing rain and snow intermittently throughout Wednesday night, with the possibility of icing in some regions and potentially incurring power outages.
Parts of northern New York and northern New England may experience over a foot of snow.
It is anticipated that the weather will be unsettled on Thursday, February 23, with intermittent showers throughout the day.
The skies will be gradually clearing overnight, leading to a sunny day on Friday, Feb. 24. It is predicted that it will be a windy day and continue into the evening.
The National Weather Service reports that temperatures will become markedly cooler on late Friday and throughout the first half of the weekend.
Temperatures on Saturday, February 25th are expected to be in the teens during the morning hours with a high around the freezing point.
