Don't Fall For It: Rental Scams Targeting Medford Residents; Suspects Sought
Long Island house hunters are being cautioned by the police to keep a watchful eye out for fraudsters who are specifically preying on prospective renters.
In March 2023, there were two rental scams that took place in Medford, which prompted Suffolk County Police to issue a warning.
According to the police, the sequence of events began on March 12th when an individual posted a leaflet advertising the availability of a house for rent in Medford on the Laundry Kingdom, which can be found on Medford Avenue.
A couple of individuals interested in renting the property answered the advertisement and subsequently encountered a lady who alleged to be a genuine estate representative.
The woman received a cash deposit from both victims in return for a key, but the key provided was ineffective for the residence situated on Sipp Avenue in Medford.
Pictures were released by investigators on May 26th, revealing a suspect and a vehicle that are suspected to be involved in the scam.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers can be contacted online or by calling 1-800-220-TIPS, for those who have any information that the police may be interested in.
