STONY BROOK, NY – The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) is set to host its first-ever Music Documentary Film Festival, bringing a global showcase of music-focused films to Long Island. From August 8th to 10th, the LIMEHOF location at 97 Main Street in Stony Brook will be a hub for film screenings, live performances, and exclusive Q&A sessions with filmmakers and musicians.
The festival, which will run from 11 a.m. into the evening each day, features twenty-four feature-length and short films. The lineup, curated by Executive Director Tom Needham and Artistic Director Wendy Feinberg, spans a wide array of musical genres, including classical, hip-hop, rock, jazz, ska, blues, and folk. The schedule also includes films on the music industry, a pirate radio station, and even break dancing.
“The highly anticipated LIMEHOF Music Documentary Film Festival puts Long Island at the center of the global music documentary scene,” said Needham. “It features bold, unforgettable films that capture everything from rock legends and rising stars to hometown heroes and hidden histories.”
A Star-Studded Schedule
The festival's opening night will shine a spotlight on Long Island's own Harry Chapin with Cat’s in the Cradle 50th Anniversary: The Song That Changed Our Lives. This film celebrates the legendary musician, philanthropist, and founder of Long Island Cares. A Q&A with producer S.A. Baron and representatives from LI Cares and the Harry Chapin Foundation will follow the screening, complete with a live music tribute to Chapin.
Other notable films include:
* Building the Beatles, which will be followed by a Q&A with co-director John Rose and a live performance by British pop star Billy J. Kramer.
* Coming Home: The Guggenheim Grotto Back in Ireland, with director and actor Will Chase, producer Deborah Lopez, and producer Ingrid Michaelson expected to attend. Mick Lynch of Guggenheim Grotto will perform live after the Q&A.
* Garland Jeffreys: The King of In Between, which explores the fifty-year career of the genre-bending singer-songwriter and will feature a Q&A with director Claire Jeffreys.
* The Bronx Boys – The Evolution of B-Boy Culture and To My Rescue, it Was The S1Ws (A Public Enemy Story) will both have Q&A sessions with their respective directors and musical guests, including director Robert McCullough Jr. and members of the Bronx Boys Wrecking Crew, and director Janol Ture and Public Enemy’s Hip-Hop Legend DJ Johnny Juice. Johnny Juice is also scheduled to perform live.
The festival will conclude with a spotlight on Hung Up on a Dream: The Zombies Documentary, followed by a Q&A with director and actor Robert Schwartzman.
Music and More
In addition to the film screenings, the festival will host filmmaker Q&A panels, opening and closing night parties, and live musical performances by artists such as Brady Rymer, Naked Blue, Jennifer Silecchia-Hackett, Sandra Taylor, and Mega Infinity, among others. Many of the filmmakers and musicians involved in the documentaries are expected to be in attendance, offering attendees unique opportunities to interact with the creative forces behind the films.
The film festival is presented by Catholic Health, with additional support from sponsors including Northville, PSEG, the Claire Friedlander Family Foundation, Optimum, Aline Wealth Management, and The EGC Group.
