According to a recent company statement, the supermarket aims to employ over 500 individuals, offering a substantial number of job opportunities in various roles.

Wegmans has launched its online application process for a variety of positions, spanning from entry-level roles to management, and encompassing full-time opportunities across every department, including culinary positions. In a bid to facilitate the hiring process, the supermarket chain will organize an in-person hiring event exclusively for full-time positions on Thursday, March 21, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Lake Grove Hiring Office, located at 2780 Middle Country Road, Suite 140 in Lake Grove.

Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to submit their applications online in advance of the event, utilizing the company's application portal at jobs.wegmans.com. However, the store recognizes the importance of accommodating walk-in applicants, offering on-the-spot interviews during the event. Wegmans is actively seeking individuals who are enthusiastic about people and food to fill approximately 500 new job positions in the Lake Grove community.

Cooper emphasized the company's commitment to providing paid training at one of their existing stores as part of the preparation for the Wegmans Lake Grove opening.

Wegmans' journey to establish a presence on Long Island has been marked by careful consideration and strategic decisions. Initial efforts in 2015 and 2016 involved signing letters of intent and engaging in lease negotiations for various retail spaces in Nassau and Suffolk counties, including potential locations in Holbrook, Huntington, Yaphank, and the former Sears property in Hicksville. However, the family-owned chain withdrew from those deals, reevaluating its approach.

After successfully opening stores in Brooklyn and Manhattan, Wegmans eventually secured its Long Island foothold in the previous year. The acquisition of an 8.5-acre development site in Lake Grove marked a significant milestone. The grocery chain invested $15.3 million in the purchase from Prestige Properties & Development, the owner of DSW Plaza.
