SCPD Hate Crimes Unit Probes Racial Graffiti at Bay Shore Marina.
BAY SHORE, NY — The Hate Crimes Unit of the Suffolk County Police Department is currently looking into a potential hate crime incident that occurred at Bay Shore Marina. On August 6, it was reported that vandals had spray-painted racial graffiti on two boats, prompting the investigation into this alarming act.
"There is currently an ongoing investigation being carried out by the SCPD, and the Town is completely ready to offer any assistance that may be needed," expressed Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. "We maintain a strict policy of zero tolerance towards this kind of behavior."
Although the specifics of the graffiti have not been made public, a representative from the town indicated that the incident occurred even with security measures at the marina actively in effect. These measures consist of advanced license plate recognition technology, surveillance cameras, and a guard stationed at a booth around the clock. Furthermore, town officials have enhanced the presence of rangers and Harbor Patrol Units to ensure greater safety and security in the area.
As reported by officials, a total of 597 parking violations have been recorded at the marina since the month of May. Additionally, there has been one citation for an "open alcohol" infraction, one for smoking, three for operating unregistered vehicles, two tickets issued to unlicensed operators, and one citation for displaying improper license plates.
