Over the past three years, numerous women have reported being stalked by a man from Long Island through online and telephone means.
A resident of Deer Park named Joseph Mathews, 49 years old, was taken into custody on Tuesday, May 16 at slightly past 2 p.m. He was accused of four cases of stalking, which is a second-degree felony.
According to Suffolk County Police, four women have reached out individually to report that they have received sexually inappropriate messages and phone calls from an unidentified man beginning in April of 2020.
After conducting an inquiry, officers from the Crime Section of Suffolk County PD Fifth Precinct concluded that Mathews had been scouring local business and neighborhood web pages in search of women and obtaining their contact information from the internet.
According to the Suffolk County Police, he had made hundreds of calls and sent numerous sexual messages to the four women during a span of three years.
Officers from the Crime Section of the Fifth Precinct conducted a search warrant at the residence of Mathews.
After being detained at the Fifth Precinct, Mathews will face charges at the First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday, May 17.
The Fifth Precinct Crime Section is requesting individuals who may have been victimized by Mathews to contact them at 631-854-8526.
