Authorities report that a child sustained injuries in a house fire in Brentwood.
On Sunday afternoon in Brentwood, a residential fire broke out with nine individuals present, including a child who required hospitalization.
According to Brentwood fire authorities, the blaze originated in the basement of a residence on Fairdale Drive. Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly before 12:30 p.m.
Teams from Central Islip, Commack, Bay Shore, Islip, West Islip, and East Brentwood provided assistance. They successfully contained the fire shortly after 1:30 p.m.
According to fire officials, the residence was occupied by nine individuals when the fire occurred. They also reported that the child taken to Good Samaritan Hospital had elevated levels of carbon monoxide in their bloodstream.
The Suffolk Arson Unit is currently conducting an investigation into the fire's origin.
Additionally, PSEG crews were summoned to address a live wire issue, which was safely secured at approximately 1:15 p.m.
The Red Cross was informed about the affected residents, and unfortunately, the house is now deemed uninhabitable.
