Suffolk Police Officer Seriously Injured Following Pursuit on the LIE
Suffolk County Police arrested a a 29-year-old Brentwood man Sunday night, after he allegedly critically injured a Suffolk County Police officer on the Long Island Expressway near exit 55. Officer Brendan Gallager was conducting a traffic stop on the Westbound side of the Long Island Expressway around 6 p.m. Sunday night when a ford Mustang driven by 29-year-old Cody Fisher of Brentwood.
Officer Gallagher activated his lights and sirens, in an attempt to pull over the Mustang. Fisher lost control of the Mustang and sideswiped the police vehicle forcing the car to leave the vehicle and over turn. The Mustang also went off the road, and struck a light post.
Fisher, the driver of the Mustang, was apprehended by an off-duty Nassau County Police officer who was passing by at the time of the incident.
Gallagher was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition.
Fisher, 29, of Brentwood, was transported to South Side University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was released, and charged with Driving while ability impaired by Drugs, Assault 2nd Degree, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 2nd Degree, and Reckless Driving.
He was arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip on January 6.
