Mother Charged After Daughter Found Unresponsive In Melville Hotel Pool
Manhattan authorities have pressed manslaughter charges against the mother of a 7-year-old girl who was discovered unresponsive in a hotel pool on Long Island last year.
According to the Suffolk County Police, Katlyn Pineda from Queens was discovered unconscious in the Marriott Melville pool on Thursday, January 13, 2022. Despite being comatose until her passing on Monday, May 1, from her injuries, she was unable to recover.
On Monday, May 15 at 7:45 p.m., Erica Baez, Pineda's mother, was apprehended in Manhattan after Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives conducted an investigation.
The police reported that Baez neglected to supervise her daughter while she was in the swimming pool during the incident.
A 41-year-old resident of the Bronx named Baez has been accused of manslaughter and two counts of causing harm to a child through their conduct.
She will spend the night in custody and her arraignment is set to take place on May 16th at First District Court in Central Islip.
