Nine Long Island residents were rescued after being overcome by carbon monoxide.

Nine individuals living in Long Island who had dangerously elevated carbon monoxide levels were rescued by police officers and firefighters.

The incident occurred at approximately 21:20 on Monday, March 13 at a residence on Buchanan Road in East Meadow.

Police reported that they had gone to a house on Buchanan Road in order to help the East Meadow Fire Department with the nine tenants in the home that were exposed to enormous amounts of carbon monoxide.

The East Meadow Fire Department transported the residents to an area hospital for further treatment and observation.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal offered assistance at the scene.

The Nassau County Police Department reminds its citizens to ensure that their respective households are equipped with functioning carbon monoxide alarms and to regularly monitor the battery levels.
