Suffolk County Launches ‘Night Court’ for Traffic and Parking Violations

New evening sessions will give residents another option for handling certain traffic matters

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Suffolk County residents dealing with certain traffic and parking violations will soon have another option besides appearing in court during traditional daytime hours.

Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine announced the launch of a new “Night Court” program at the Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency on Tuesday.

The initiative is intended to make the process more convenient for residents who may have difficulty taking time away from work, school, childcare or other responsibilities during regular business hours.

Under the program, people seeking to resolve eligible matters without an attorney will be able to choose an evening court session before their originally assigned court date.

The change provides additional flexibility for Suffolk residents while allowing the agency to continue handling traffic and parking cases through its existing system.

For many residents, appearing during the workday can mean rearranging schedules or losing hours at work simply to address a traffic matter. Evening sessions could provide an alternative for those unable to easily attend during the day.

The Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency handles numerous traffic and parking-related cases, making accessibility an important issue for motorists throughout the county.

Residents should still carefully review their individual ticket, notice or court paperwork and follow the instructions provided for their particular case.

The introduction of Night Court represents an effort by Suffolk County to make a frequently used government service more accessible to residents whose schedules may not fit traditional government office hours.
