According to authorities, a crash occurred on the Long Island Expressway involving a driver with a suspended license that resulted in the death of a 36-year-old man.
Suffolk County Police reported that the occurrence occurred close to Sagtikos Parkway in Brentwood on I-495 on Wednesday, April 5, around 12:45 a.m.
A box truck collided with the stationary 2012 Jeep Liberty of Brandon Gillespie, aged 36 and from Smithtown, which had stopped in the right eastbound lane of the LIE, according to investigators.
According to police, the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office pronounced Gillespie deceased at the site.
Taron Smith, a 31-year-old resident of Patchogue, who was driving the truck during the accident, escaped unhurt. Police stated that his license was suspended at the time of the collision.
Mr. Smith was detained on charges of third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. In addition, he was subjected to several summonses for contravening Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations.
Mr. Smith is scheduled to appear for arraignment at the First District Court located in Central Islip on a future date.
