The person who committed a fatal stabbing during a home invasion on Long Island more than four years ago is finally going to jail.

On Monday, March 27, 39-year-old Harlem resident, Ade N'Gaii, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison by Suffolk County Court. His conviction for second-degree murder in October 2018 was the reason for the sentencing, following a guilty verdict from the jury.

According to the prosecutors, N’Gaii and three companions attempted to burglarize Appel's residence in Patchogue while carrying a handgun and aiming to rob money and marijuana. Nevertheless, they were unable to gain access to the property through force.

Prosecutors assert that on November 2, 2018, while masquerading as building contractors, the group went back to Appel's residence. Wearing hard hats and bright vests, the four burglarized the house and savagely murdered Appel by hitting and piercing him.m in a savage and deadly manner using both physical violence and sharp objects, causing his demise.

The man's body was found by Suffolk County Police officers in the front vestibule of his building at a later time.

Prosecutors stated that N'Gaii was linked to the crime scene as his DNA was found on a reflective vest retrieved by investigators. Additionally, text messages sent to his accomplices indicated that he was present in the vicinity at the time of the homicide.

It was not until June 2021 that N'Gaii was apprehended, more than two years later. On Feb. 24, 2023, N'Gaii was found guilty of committing second-degree murder.

According to a statement by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney, instead of abandoning his plan to invade the victim's home when it was unsuccessful, this defendant chose to persist.

Due to his overwhelming desire for wealth, he committed the heinous act of murder. As a result of his choice, he will be serving a considerable amount of time behind bars.

Omar Sam, who was involved in the killing, has pleaded guilty to attempted murder and is currently waiting to be sentenced. He is 41 years old.

In November 2021, Joshua Rodriguez, who is 29 years old, pleaded guilty to felony conspiracy and is expected to receive his punishment in March 2023. Another collaborator has also been identified.

There is still an unidentified and uncharged individual who was involved in the crime.
