Intoxicated Driver Strikes and Injures Cyclist on Long Island, Flees Scene, According to Police.

On Thursday, January 25, at approximately 6 p.m., a 34-year-old man identified as Brandon Barnes, hailing from West Babylon, is now facing charges related to drunk driving following an unfortunate incident in Farmingdale, Long Island. The collision transpired near the intersection of Fulton and Williams streets. According to Nassau County Police, Barnes, driving westbound on Fulton Street, collided with a 52-year-old male bicyclist traveling in the same direction.

The impact resulted in the bicyclist being forcefully thrown from his bike, causing head trauma. Emergency services promptly responded, transporting the injured victim to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Subsequent to the collision, Barnes purportedly fled the scene; however, he returned shortly afterward and was subsequently apprehended by law enforcement.

Upon investigation, authorities determined that Barnes was operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Consequently, he now faces charges including Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), leaving the scene of an incident, and third-degree assault. The legal proceedings will unfold as the consequences of this regrettable event continue to unfold.
