Car splits in two after colliding with a pole on Long Island; driver faces DUI charges, according to NCPD.
In Freeport, New York, a man is alleged to have driven under the influence when his vehicle collided with a pole, resulting in it splitting in half on Sunday, as reported by the Nassau County Police Department.
According to police reports, Hakeem Matheus, aged 28, was purportedly traveling eastbound on West Sunrise Highway near McKinley Avenue at approximately 4:08 a.m. when his 2014 black Toyota Camry veered off the road and collided with the pole.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered the rear portion of the vehicle in the roadway and the front half of the car pressed against a building, as per authorities.
Both Matheus and a 27-year-old male passenger in the vehicle were transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, as confirmed by the police.
Matheus faces multiple charges, including DUI, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, assault, and operating an unregistered vehicle. He will be arraigned when his medical condition permits, as stated by authorities.
