🐾❤️ ADOPT, DON’T SHOP: GIVE A SHELTER PET A SECOND CHANCE ❤️🐾

Long Island Daily News
Across Long Island, dogs, cats and other animals are waiting for something every animal deserves — a safe and loving home.
Some are puppies and kittens. Others are adults and seniors who are too often overlooked. Some were surrendered by families, some were found as strays, and others have stories we may never completely know.
But one thing they have in common is that they deserve another chance.
🐾 That’s why “Adopt, Don’t Shop” is such an important message.
When you adopt from a shelter or rescue, you’re doing more than bringing home a pet. You’re opening your home to an animal that has been waiting for someone to choose them.
Please don’t overlook the senior dog quietly waiting in a kennel.
Don’t overlook the adult cat because there are kittens nearby.
Don’t overlook the shy animal who may need a little extra time and patience to trust again.
Sometimes the animal everyone walks past is the one who could become your best friend.
If you aren’t able to adopt, there are still ways to help. Foster, volunteer, donate supplies, support reputable rescues, or simply share posts about animals looking for homes.
One share on Facebook could reach the person who says, “That’s the one. That’s my dog. That’s my cat.”
And please remember: adopting an animal is a commitment.
Pets depend on their families for food, veterinary care, training, patience, protection and love throughout their lives. Before adopting, make sure you’re prepared for that responsibility.
But when the time is right to welcome a new pet into your family, please consider adoption first.
Visit a Long Island shelter. Contact a local rescue. Ask about the animals who have been waiting the longest.
You may think you’re walking into a shelter to save an animal.
You might discover that they change your life, too. ❤️
