๐Ÿ›‘ Weather Alert | July 25, 2025 Sweltering Temps Expected To Sock Parts Of Long Island Friday: National Weather Service

The National Weather Service has issued an alert warning that dangerously hot and humid conditions are expected to bear down on portions of Nassau and Suffolk counties Friday, with real-feel temperatures soaring well into the upper 90s โ€” and even topping 100ยฐF in some areas.

According to meteorologists, a combination of scorching sunshine, stagnant air, and high dewpoints will trigger what forecasters call โ€œoppressive heat,โ€ especially during peak afternoon hours. Heat advisories may be issued if conditions intensify further.

โ€œThe heat index could reach 102 degrees in parts of Long Island,โ€ said NWS meteorologist James Tomaselli. โ€œThis kind of weather can be hazardous, especially for seniors, young children, outdoor workers, and pets.โ€

Local officials are urging residents to take precautions:

  • Limit outdoor activity between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Drink plenty of fluids โ€” stay away from alcohol and caffeine
  • Check in on elderly neighbors and those without air conditioning
  • Never leave children or pets in a parked car, even for a moment

Cooling centers across Long Island may be opened if temperatures remain dangerously high through the weekend. Residents are encouraged to follow local municipality websites and emergency alerts for updates.

Fire Island, Jones Beach, and other shoreline spots are expected to be crowded as Long Islanders seek relief โ€” but officials urge beachgoers to use sunscreen, stay hydrated, and be aware of heat stroke symptoms like dizziness, confusion, or nausea.
