“Lee Zeldin, Trump Cabinet Nominee, Links Pipe Bomb Threat at His Long Island Home to ‘Pro-Palestinian’ Sentiment”
UPDATE: Former Congressman Lee Zeldin confirmed that he and his family were not home at the time of the incident and are safe. Police are actively investigating the situation.
LONG ISLAND, NY — Former U.S. Rep. and Trump cabinet nominee Lee Zeldin reported that he and his family were targeted Wednesday morning by a pipe bomb threat featuring a pro-Palestinian message.
Officers arrived at his Saint George Drive residence in Shirley shortly before 9 a.m., and Emergency Service Section personnel are inspecting the property, according to a Suffolk police spokesman.
In a statement, Zeldin confirmed that he and his family were not home at the time and are safe.
“We are cooperating with law enforcement to gather more information as the situation unfolds,” he said. “We are grateful for the quick actions of local officers in ensuring the safety of our family, neighbors, and community.”
Earlier this month, President-elect Donald Trump nominated former U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.
Several of President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees, including Lee Zeldin, have been targeted by bomb threats and swatting attacks. These incidents have raised significant security concerns as authorities work to ensure the safety of those affected.
The threats prompted swift responses from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. While no explosive devices were discovered, the FBI has launched an investigation into the incidents.
In a statement to News 12, Trump’s transition team commended law enforcement, saying, “Law enforcement acted quickly to ensure the safety of those who were targeted. President Trump and the entire transition team are grateful for their swift action.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson condemned the threats, emphasizing that such actions are unacceptable and go against American values. President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation and is closely monitoring developments.
It is not the first time Suffolk police have responded to an incident at Lee Zeldin’s residence. In October 2022, a shooting occurred outside his home in Shirley, New York, while his teenage daughters were inside doing their homework. Fortunately, they were unharmed, but the incident raised serious concerns about safety in the area.
The shooter, Noah Green, was later identified as a member of the “No Fake Love” gang. He pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder and conspiracy in connection with the gang-related violence.
In October 2024, Green was sentenced to 12 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision. The case highlights the ongoing challenges of addressing gang violence and ensuring community safety.
