29-year-old Queens Man Arrested for Allegedly Scamming Elderly Suffolk Resident
Suffolk County Police arrested a 29-year-old Queens Man for allegedly trying to scam a 77-year-old woman in Lindenhurst Thursday afternoon, October 3.
A woman in Lindenhurst received an alert on her computer indicating that her bank account had been compromised and instructed her to call the number on her screen. She called the number, and a man convinced her to withdraw cash from her bank account. The man went to the woman’s house, and picked up more then $16,000 in cash from her residence on October 2, at approximately 1:30 p.m.
The victim received another call the same day seeking another $10,000. The woman called police, and Gurpeet Singh, 29, of Queens was arrested at the victim’s home in Lindenhurst at approximately 1:10 p.m.
First Squad Detectives, charged Singh, with Grand Larceny 3rd degree. He is being held at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on October 4.
The investigation is ongoing and Detectives believe another man collected the money from the victim on October 2.
