Following numerous complaints from the surrounding community, Suffolk County Police arrested three people who were allegedly operating an illegal gambling operation in a West Babylon Deli. After receiving several complaints via the surrounding community, First Precinct Crime Section Officers along with the Town of Babylon Fire Marshall Building Inspector, and Code Enforcement officials conducted an investigation into J&M Familia Grocery&Deli located at 672 Sunrise Highway in West Babylon.
During the investigation, officers observed customers drinking and gambling property using three illegal gambling machines.One employee of the store, Jacqueline Mendez, was charged with Promoting Gambling 2nd degree, Possession of Gambling Devices, Criminal Nuisance,2nd 2nd dress, and selling Alcoholic Beverages without a licenses.
Marlon Alvarado, a customer, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, 2nd degree for being in possession of Cocaine. Marlon Espinoza was charged with loitering for the purpose of gambling.
The Town of Babylon Fire Marshall, Building Inspector, and Code Enforcement issued several violations to the business.
Jacqueline Mendez of West Babylon, Marlon Alvarado, of North Babylon, and Marlon Espinoza of East Meadow were all issued desk appearance tickets, and are scheduled to appear in court at the First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.
