Following an investigation by Suffolk County Police, more human remains were found in connection with the remains found in Babylon on February 29. The second set of remains were found in West Babylon and in neighboring Nassau County in Bethpage state park.
The remains in West Babylon were found across from 103 Lakeway Drive in a wooded area, and are believed to be connected to the first set of remains found in Babylon. The remains have also been tentatively identified as a 53-year-old male who has a residence in the Bronx, and the additional set of remains have been tentatively identified as a 59-year-old female victim, also from the Bronx. Police are withholding their names pending the notification of their next of kin.
A second set of remains were found Tuesday in Bethpage at the Bethpage State Park.
The investigation began on Thursday morning in Babylon when a group of students from Babylon Junior-Senior High School, found an arm that was partially hidden underneath a pile of leaves near Southard's pond. A subsequent investigation led Police to discovering more remains in the wooded area near the pond.
“Based on the investigation, this appears to be an isolated incident, with no threat to the public,” a police source said Tuesday.
The original investigation in Babylon led police to discovering the severed remains of a leg in the pile of leaves, and a right arm was found 20 feet away.
A search warrant was also executed on a house on Railroad avenue in Amityville, with no human remains found during the search.
A police source has also said that they did not confirm the arrests of any suspects.
The investigation is continuing and Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852–6392, or call crime stoppers at 1800-220-TIPS.
