A group of students from Babylon Junior-Senior high school made a grisly discovery yesterday morning when they found a severed left arm on the Eastern End of Southard's Pond Park. A subsequent investigation by Suffolk County Homicide Squad Detectives and the Canine unit found a severed leg in a mound of leaves in the park, and found an additional right arm 20 feet away from where the first arm was found.
“So we have a right arm, and a left arm,” Detective Lt. Kevin Beyrer said on Thursday following the discovery. “The right arm was found about 20 feet further into the woods from the left arm, and almost a direct line,” Beyrer continued.
The remains of the arms and leg appear to be male.
Police tapped off the area with yellow crime scene tape, and the search was suspended due to darkness, and will resume on Friday
Breyer continued saying that a DNA test will be conducted and police will look at recent missing persons reports to see if they can help identify the remains.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392, or Crime Stoppers at 1800-220-TIPS.
