Bay Shore Man Killed By Suffolk Police after Stabbing Officer in Bay Shore
Suffolk County police shot and killed a Bay Shore man early Saturday morning after he charged at three officers responding to a domestic call in Bay Shore and ended up stabbing one of the officers multiple times.
Third precinct officers responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute at 1138 Udall Road in Bay Shore around 9:30 am Saturday morning, when according to police, 33 year old Taiquell Woodson of Bay Shore came charging out of the screen door and into the front yard with a knife in his hand forcing one of the officers to fall back into the snow. Woodson then jumped on top of him stabbing him multiple times. One of the officers deployed his taser which had no effect, forcing the third officer to fire his weapons striking Woodson multiple times. Officers preformed CPR on the man, and Woodson was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The officer was stabbed multiple times in his arms and chest with his bullet proof vest preventing the knife from puncturing his chest. All three officers were taken to the hospital and have been treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.
“The incident occurred in five seconds,” Suffolk County Police acting commissioner Robert Waring said at a press conference Saturday afternoon at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. “This was a justified shooting,” Waring continued.
Police are currently investigating the shooting, and have said that body cameras worn on all their officers recorded the incident, and will be released at a date to be announced.
