Father Allegedly Assaults 5-Week-Old Son, According to Police Report.
In Stony Brook, NY, a South Setauket resident was taken into custody on Monday following allegations of assaulting and abusing his infant son, as reported by Suffolk County police.
At 1:20 p.m. on January 21, law enforcement responded to a call at Stony Brook University Hospital. The emergency involved an infant, brought in by ambulance to the emergency department, exhibiting injuries that raised concerns of potential abuse, as stated by authorities.
After an inquiry led by the Suffolk County Police Department's special victim’s section detectives, Vincent DiStasi, 31, the father of the 5-week-old boy, was apprehended at the hospital, where the child is reportedly in critical condition, as per police statements.
DiStasi, whose address is currently withheld, faces charges of first-degree assault, reckless assault of a child, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the police. Suffolk County Family and Children Services have been informed of the situation, as per law enforcement statements.
DiStasi was detained overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is slated for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday, as confirmed by the police.
